“Restorative Practices have taught me a lot about respecting myself, others, and the space I am being welcomed into.”

The Restorative Practices Youth Leadership Cohort (RPYLC) is a unique program for youth to experience and build community while cultivating a sense of agency, self, and connection.
The RPYLC is a collaboration project envisioned by Restorative Justice Community Action (RJCA) and Koinonia Leadership Academy (KLA), that provides an opportunity for high school age youth in the Twin Cities area to develop an understanding of restorative ways of being and to build diverse relationships and leadership skills.
Our program centers youth voice and experience as the foundation for co-creating a safe and healing space with peers, facilitators, and in community.
By doing this work, youth discover ways to bring well-being and Restorative Practices to themselves, their families and to their broader communities.

Over the course of 10-months, the cohort engages through a 4-day Restorative Practices retreat and monthly mentorship sessions for exploration, connection and leadership development. The RPYLC concludes with an intergenerational community gathering including caregivers and self-identified support systems.
“The use of restorative circles/practices are not limited to moments of conflict. They are a space to build bonds, relationships and trust. Although great for conflict, the practices can simply be a space to come together and build community.” —youth participant, 2022/23 RPYLC participant
