- Day 3: Putting it into practice!
Learning Objectives
1. Learn about the philosophy, history, and principles of Restorative Justice in the context of restorative practices. Participants will explore the core values that underpin restorative practices, including examining core beliefs, building relationships, promoting accountability, and fostering a sense of community in relationship with our shared humanity.
2. Participants will explore strategies to foster a restorative practice to build and sustain community that prioritizes trust, respect, and inclusivity. These strategies will include lessons and activities focused on active listening, nonviolent communication, and building empathy.
3. Through didactic and small group activities, participants will explore and share language and resources about trauma, including definitions, causes/ origins, and the wide-ranging impacts on bodies, brains, beliefs, and behaviors.
4. Participants will explore the relationship between individual and collective trauma responses, cycles of violence, and impacts on individuals, communities, and systems.
5. Utilizing real-life scenarios or case studies, participants will practice using the restorative approach through a trauma-informed and racial equity lens to address and resolve conflicts, repair harm, and restore relationships within their communities.
Cultivating Community attendees will gain a broader understanding of “justice” and the impact restorative practices can have on reducing harm and violence and building resilience and capacity.
